Cadsourcing, Autodesk discuss license renewal terms, new collections

    By Arnold Florentino, IT Specialist

Cadsourcing Inc. is a company dedicated to helping clients from around the world with their drafting needs. That said, it is integral for the company to stay ahead of the curve, technology-wise, in order to be able to provide the best services  in quality computer-aided design.

With this in mind, Cadsourcing recently met with Autodesk Inc. to discuss their ongoing partnership. The meeting tackled Autodesk’s “perpetual license,” license renewal and some of Autodesk’s software collections.

During the meeting, representatives of Autodesk shared that its “perpetual license” deal will be phased out by 2020 as the company will move on to promoting other new initiatives. According to Autodesk, “the purchase of new licenses is now available only by subscription. In addition, the option to cross grade to any of the affected products was discontinued when [Autodesk] stopped selling new perpetual licenses.”

They reviewed with Cadsourcing the would-be effects of the phasing out, and discussed their new products. Fortunately for Cadsourcing, this development will not disrupt its operations as the company has been utilizing subscription licenses since the beginning.

However, both companies went on to explore more of what Autodesk brings to the table, specifically, the Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection and the Product Design & Manufacturing Collection.

A package that can be considered the future for drafting, the Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection features the following software: Autodesk Revit, Civil 3D, InfraWorks®, Navisworks®, ReCapPro, Fabrication CADmep, Advance Steel, Insight, Revit®  Live, FormIt Pro, Robot Structural Analysis Professional, Vehicle Tracking, Autodesk Rendering, Autodesk Drive and AutoCAD Specialized Toolset.

Meanwhile, the Product Design & Manufacturing Collection features the following software: Inventor, Inventor Nastran, Inventor CAM, Inventor nesting, Inventor Tolerance Analysis, Factory Design Utilities, Fusion 360, Navisworks Manage, ReCap™ Pro, Vault, Autodesk Rendering, Autodesk Drive and AutoCAD Specialized Toolset.

While the collections have indeed plenty to offer, Cadsourcing decided to only acquire the licenses for the specific software it deems necessary for operations. The decision is a practical one. Besides the high-cost of acquiring one or both of the featured Autodesk collections, Cadsourcing, at this point, does not need all the other software the collections are bundled with.
