The Big Four Positions in 5G Mobile

How Is Your Carrier Taking Steps Toward 5G Mobile?

The transition from the current 4G mobile technology to the next-gen 5G mobile technology is poised to change the way we live our lives and the way we do business. 5G is up to 100 times faster than 4G. More data and faster data flow mean more powerful and more efficient communication systems.

These more powerful 5G mobile systems pave the way to improving technologies ranging from game streaming, virtual, augmented and mixed reality, to high-resolution wireless surveillance cameras, industrial robots, the Internet of Things (IoT), autonomous vehicles, smart factories, the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and smart cities.

So, who are the top four companies helping to pioneer 5G mobile and is your carrier taking steps toward 5G?

Verizon – Verizon named Sacramento as the first of five cities they will bring 5G mobile to this year. Their initial plan is to start with residential broadband, basically making it an alternative to fiber or cable in the home. 5G “has the potential to usher in the fourth industrial revolution – it’s that massive,” said Verizon chief network officer Nicola Palmer.

AT&T – AT&T plans to bring 5G mobile to customers in a dozen cities by the end of this year, including parts of Atlanta, Dallas and Waco, Texas. AT&T chief technology officer Andre Fuetsch says that if “3G was like a junior high school rock band, 4G was a louder high school rock band and 5G is a full orchestra.”

T-Mobile – T-Mobile plans to build out mobile 5G in 30 cities this year. Customers in New York, Los Angeles, Dallas and Las Vegas will be the first to experience the new technology once the initial 5G smartphones show up next year. “At T-Mobile, our vision of a 5G future keeps the customer front and center, just like the way we built the nation’s fastest LTE network,” said the company’s chief technology officer.

Sprint – Sprint is also throwing its hat in the ring for mobile 5G in 2019. They named Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. – as the “5G-ready” cities that they will be bringing Sprint’s 5G mobile network to. Marcelo Claure, Sprint CEO says “Now imagine how 5G will revolutionize everything in our lives. Speeds 100 times faster than today, driverless cars, incredibly smart robots and smart city technologies will be powered by an always-connected 5G network.”
